What a coaching session with Sandy is like?

Is every session the same for every client?

The structure of each session is similar, but what happens in the session is based on what my client needs that day – it may be progressing medium- to long-term goals or it may be something immediate they need support with.

How long do the sessions last?

I always do an intake session before our formal sessions start – that can be 30mins to an hour.  We do this to make sure there’s a fit for both of us.  We’ll be working on some really personal goals, so it’s important that we develop a relationship that’s built on trust.

We schedule 90 minutes for formal 1-on-1 sessions.  This allows us to really explore what’s important.

Is there a lot of talking about my past?

There is reflection on the past – but we don’t dwell on the past.  Coaching is about moving you forward.  We have to understand where we’ve been and the actions we have (or have not) taken to get us where we are today.  We focus on the behaviours that serve us well and work out new behaviours to replace the ones that don’t.

What type of answers can I expect from a session? Will Sandy give me the answers?

One thing I’m sure of, I don’t have your answers!  What’s right for me is not right for you (or anyone else for that matter).

I firmly believe that we all have our own answers within us.  My role is to facilitate the discussion and ‘discovery’.

I’m a pretty direct coach and I use my strengths (of strategy, ideation, future thinking, wanting to be the best and developing plans to make that happen) to support my clients.

My clients have told me that I see things in ways that they can’t or wouldn’t have.  This unique perspective allows my clients to think about their lives, their relationships, their work and, of course, themselves, in different ways.

What aspects of my life will be focused on?

Well, this is up to my clients and very much depends on the coaching that they need or want.

We can focus on a pretty ‘transactional’ issue (that might be 1 or 2 sessions), or it could be more transformational and growth focused coaching which is a longer-term program.

In any event, we do take a holistic perspective.  Often there is more at play than we originally think and what we believe is the issue, may be merely a symptom.

Is coaching right for everyone?

Strengths-based performance coaching suits anyone who wants to be the best they can be.

To achieve greatness, you have to put the work in.

Great things don’t happen in a comfort zone and powerful coaching experiences are the same.

There will be times that you’ll feel uncomfortable – that's mainly because we shine a light on things that you haven’t wanted to think about or explore too deeply.

My role as your coach is to create an environment in which it’s ‘safe’ to explore these issues.  Our sessions are free from judgement.  My sole purpose is to help you be the best, whatever, you can be – leader, boss, entrepreneur, team player, mother, husband... whatever it is that is important to you.

I will be your biggest supporter, but the work is up to you.
